It Was a Day….

So today was a day. And it isn’t even evening yet. To start the day school was canceled. But not really. Instead of weather days like in the past now we have online days. Ok cool. Not. Jonathan went out of town and took his laptop that Jacob uses for school. Face to face school has started so we didn’t think Jacob would need the laptop. Wrong. So Jake had to use mine. While I did my zoom calls on my phone.

Then we lost power for a few hours. Yep. That happened. So I had to figure out how to use my phone as a hotspot. Which I’ve never actually done before. The internet via that was spotty at best so Jacob kept getting kicked off the computer. Not fun. Let’s just say I have a 13yr old that didn’t want to do his school work in the first place so getting kicked off wasn’t at all helpful. We went from very little motivation to none very fast.

Thank goodness the power came back on after a few hours. But I still had a teen that didnt want to do his work. And because of other issues I can’t just let him in the office to work on it on his own. He has to be monitored at all times when online. I gave him a chance to show I trusted him and let him in the office to print something and he took advantage of that and got online rather than printing his class assignment. So he had to be redirected. Next step was having him sit right next to me while I am on my zooms and also watching his screens to make sure he isn’t anywhere on line he shouldn’t be. All while listening to him complain and talking back to me about why he even has to do any of it because he doesn’t want to. We did get some goofing off toward the end. The PE stuff I needed to record him doing was super funny and we both got to break the tension and laugh about it. Which was very needed and I’m glad we ended up having.

When the day started I went back and forth on if I was going to take Logan to daycare. And I’m soooo glad I did. Adding him to the work and school from home thing would have been just too much. He would have spent the day wanting to play with me and Jake while we had work to do. And fighting a nap when I needed to be in a zoom in the middle of the day. So so so glad daycare was still open.

Y’all being a mom is hard. Being a step mom is hard. There are days you want to pull out your hair. And that is how this day started for sure. And I’m glad I’ve gotten to decompress a little before going to get Logan from daycare. To just zone a bit after my work day ended. I love my kids. With all my heart. That is something that will never change. Even in my moments of extreme frustration.

Right now I’m so glad dinner is already prepped and ready to go. One less thing I need to do today. I just have to put it on the table when it’s dinner time. The rest of the evening can be spent relaxing and enjoying spending time with my boys.
